Syncopate/AutoOverlap: chunk-centric compute–communication overlap

Contribution grade

Multi-GPU kernel compilation · Human-designed research method or resource

Reference score55,000Provisional editorial estimate of this exact contribution; its grade is assessed separately.

What changed

Introduced communication chunks that connect a local Triton kernel with a communication plan, transforming tile order and selecting transfer backends while tuning chunk size to overlap fine-grained computation and transfers.

Scientific scope

Introduced communication chunks that connect a local Triton kernel with a communication plan, transforming tile order and selecting transfer backends while tuning chunk size to overlap fine-grained computation and transfers. One renamed/revised preprint family: original AutoOverlap v1 has five authors, Syncopate v4 six. Requires annotations and a supplied/imported/template communication plan; it does not infer every global parallel plan from nothing. Backend/topology/tuning costs remain. The v4 abstract says overlap around one fused compute kernel, not that all communication must be inside a single kernel.

Evidence

The linked original sources describe the stated contribution and its evidence limits. WRS has not independently rerun the experiments or certified a proof.
