The question
Many geometry problems become easier after introducing the right auxiliary point or line. Can a system search for such constructions and combine them with symbolic deduction? AlphaGeometry2 pairs customized Gemini models with the DDAR2 engine and a broader geometric language. This record concerns the selected preprint's geometry benchmark and search contribution, rather than every topic in an olympiad or unrestricted research mathematics.
The idea
Language-model proposals suggest constructions, while symbolic reasoning derives geometric consequences. Search trees can share relevant established facts. The selected December 2025 version reports 42 solved cases out of 50 formalized cases derived from 45 IMO problems from 2000–2024. Some problems were split into cases, so those denominators are not interchangeable. Formalization and diagram-generation measurements are separate tasks; symbolic deductions are not automatically Lean-kernel certificates.
Why it matters
The contribution advances a particular combination of proposed constructions and structured reasoning. WRS's B grade concerns that recorded contribution. The human-authored mathematical rules, problem translations, model development and agent execution remain different credit categories. Provider identity tells readers where the model came from, while correctness depends on the translation, rules and derivation. A benchmark improvement is valuable evidence of capability under its conditions, not a declaration that open geometry research is solved.
A teaching example
Draw a triangle and imagine that adding one extra point turns a difficult relation into two familiar ones. An agent can explain why it chose the point and which existing rule becomes applicable. Now move the original vertices or allow a degenerate triangle: does the construction still exist, and do the same rules still apply? This illustration helps a beginner look for hidden conditions. It is not one of the reported benchmark proofs, and a convincing diagram cannot replace a derivation.
Scope and a useful next step
Read arXiv 2502.03544v3 and keep its precise case accounting. Inequality extensions proposed in the appendix were not part of the assessed solver. WRS has not replayed the experiments or certified the natural-language translations. A useful bounded task would compare one informal problem with its formalized case, identify additional assumptions and retain both versions. Do not replace that inspection with a count of repeated model answers or an unlabeled success rate.
Scientific scope
This assesses arXiv 2502.03544v3, the December 2025 version. The reported 42/50 result concerns 50 formalized cases drawn from 45 IMO geometry problems, not 50 new open problems. The system combines a customized Gemini 1.5 language model with DDAR2 symbolic search. Formalization success, diagram generation and shortlist benchmarks are separate measurements with their own denominators. Human-authored mathematical libraries and problem translations remain essential. Inequalities are not implemented in the reported system. WRS has not replayed these experiments or independently certified the translations.
