What changed
Sheng, Sheng and Ting proposed a spin–lattice model for the phonon Hall effect in a paramagnetic dielectric. They used a model of acoustic phonons and magnetic ions to calculate a sideways thermal response and compared aspects of that response with earlier measurements.
Scientific scope
Sheng, Sheng and Ting proposed a spin–lattice model for the phonon Hall effect in a paramagnetic dielectric. They used a model of acoustic phonons and magnetic ions to calculate a sideways thermal response and compared aspects of that response with earlier measurements. This is a theoretical model of a particular response, not a new experimental discovery or a unique explanation of every material. The calculation uses simplified coupling and material assumptions. Later work develops a different transport treatment and discusses energy-magnetization contributions.
