What changed

The Planck Collaboration combined final full-mission cosmic microwave background temperature and polarization power spectra with its lensing reconstruction to constrain parameters of the spatially flat six-parameter base Lambda-CDM model. For the combined Planck TT,TE,EE+lowE+lensing likelihood, the paper gives H0 = 67.36 ± 0.54 km/s/Mpc and matter fraction 0.3153 ± 0.0073, at 68% confidence.

Scientific scope

The Planck Collaboration combined final full-mission cosmic microwave background temperature and polarization power spectra with its lensing reconstruction to constrain parameters of the spatially flat six-parameter base Lambda-CDM model. For the combined Planck TT,TE,EE+lowE+lensing likelihood, the paper gives H0 = 67.36 ± 0.54 km/s/Mpc and matter fraction 0.3153 ± 0.0073, at 68% confidence. These late-universe parameters are inferred under the specified cosmological model, not direct local measurements of H0. The analysis assumes a power-law adiabatic primordial spectrum and baseline neutrino model; alternative cosmological models, priors and input data alter results. Improved polarization and residual calibration modelling are important; Plik versus CamSpec comparisons indicate residual parameter modelling effects of order 0.5 sigma. With external BAO and a one-parameter neutrino-mass extension the paper reports sum of neutrino masses < 0.12 eV at 95%, not a Planck-only measurement. Earlier Planck releases share mission data and are not independent experiments. Corrected v4 includes a corrigendum to the high-redshift reionization optical-depth limits; this should not be confused with the base-parameter estimates. The CMB lensing-amplitude discrepancy and historical Hubble comparisons are not a proof of new physics or resolution of present tensions.
