Lehmann: a higher-velocity inner core as a seismic explanation

Contribution grade

Seismology and Earth's interior · Seismology and Earth's interior

Reference score180,000Provisional editorial estimate of this exact contribution; its grade is assessed separately.

What changed

The curated original proposal adds a higher-velocity inner region as a candidate explanation and leaves explicit conditions and uncertainty for later investigators.

Scientific scope

The curated original proposal adds a higher-velocity inner region as a candidate explanation and leaves explicit conditions and uncertainty for later investigators. This version curates the explanatory hypothesis in selected 1936 passages reproduced in a 2001 scholarly edition, not the full original paper/data tables or modern inner-core theory. The original says the data do not prove the hypothesis; abrupt and sufficiently strong gradual velocity changes are discussed. The solid phase and precise modern dimensions are not certified by this target. Redrawn later diagrams are not original figures.

Evidence

Source-linked, scoped account of the original work. The published scope states the scientific assumptions and remaining verification limits. WRS has not independently certified the full proof, experimental result or system benchmark.
