What changed
Kitaev constructed a one-dimensional superconducting chain with unpaired boundary Majorana modes and related their presence to a bulk parity invariant for gapped quadratic fermion systems.
Scientific scope
Kitaev constructed a one-dimensional superconducting chain with unpaired boundary Majorana modes and related their presence to a bulk parity invariant for gapped quadratic fermion systems. The model is a specified one-dimensional superconducting fermion chain with parameter and boundary conditions supporting end modes. Finite-length splitting, parity and gap assumptions matter. A theoretical zero mode is not experimental detection or fault-tolerant computation by itself. Interactions, disorder and later devices need their own evidence.
