What changed
Drozdov, Eremets and colleagues reported sharp resistance transitions, field dependence, isotope shifts and a magnetic response in compressed sulfur hydride, with a reported magnetic onset near 203 K at about 155 GPa. They interpreted the findings as high-temperature superconductivity and proposed a hydrogen-rich phase as the likely source.
Scientific scope
Drozdov, Eremets and colleagues reported sharp resistance transitions, field dependence, isotope shifts and a magnetic response in compressed sulfur hydride, with a reported magnetic onset near 203 K at about 155 GPa. They interpreted the findings as high-temperature superconductivity and proposed a hydrogen-rich phase as the likely source. The reported onset occurs under extreme pressure, not at ambient pressure. The 203 K magnetic response and comparison resistance trace were taken at different pressures; chemical phase and electron-phonon mechanism were inferred in this original, not directly determined by these measurements. Background subtraction and raw magnetic signal require separate scrutiny. A later criticism challenges the interpretation of the subtracted magnetic signal; a later experimental-team response describes background limitations and further measurements. These positions have not been independently adjudicated.
