What changed

Two independent 2008 teams used cold atoms to observe spatial localization of matter waves under controlled conditions. Billy and colleagues released a dilute cloud into a one-dimensional laser-speckle potential and measured stationary exponential density wings. Roati and colleagues used an almost non-interacting potassium condensate in a quasiperiodic optical lattice, testing transport and spatial and momentum profiles. Their different experimental routes probe disorder-related localization; they are one result family here, with two separate source bylines.

Scientific scope

Two independent 2008 teams used cold atoms to observe spatial localization of matter waves under controlled conditions. Roati and colleagues used an almost non-interacting potassium condensate in a quasiperiodic optical lattice, testing transport and spatial and momentum profiles. Their different experimental routes probe disorder-related localization; they are one result family here, with two separate source bylines. One contribution family with distinct experimental systems, not a joint paper. Billy's negligible-interaction inference concerns dilute wings and weak disorder; its cut-off-dependent effective mobility edge is not a general three-dimensional Anderson transition. Roati realizes an Aubry–André-type quasi-periodic crossover: actual beta=1.1972 broadens/shifts the ideal golden-ratio Delta/J=2 transition. Not proof of interacting many-body localization or localization for every disorder strength.

The linked original works support the scoped statement and contribution attribution. WRS has not independently replayed experiments or reconstructed a full mathematical proof.
