What changed

Astrakharchik and colleagues modeled a strongly correlated, gas-like excited state of one-dimensional bosons with attractive interactions. A variational wavefunction and numerical estimates suggested a hard-rod-like equation of state at low density and predicted changes in collective behavior.

Scientific scope

Astrakharchik and colleagues modeled a strongly correlated, gas-like excited state of one-dimensional bosons with attractive interactions. A variational wavefunction and numerical estimates suggested a hard-rod-like equation of state at low density and predicted changes in collective behavior. The 2004 preprint describes a model and numerical prediction, not an experimental realization or a general proof of stability. Its results rely on a trial wavefunction, finite samples and approximations for trapped gases; the lower-energy clustered state remains distinct. The later experimental result has a different team.

Evidence

The linked original works support the scoped statement and contribution attribution. WRS has not independently replayed experiments or reconstructed a full mathematical proof. The 2004 preprint describes a model and numerical prediction, not an experimental realization or a general proof of stability.
