What changed

ADMX searched microwave spectra for conversion of hypothetical Galactic axions and found no statistically significant axion signal. The 2018 report reached benchmark DFSZ sensitivity near 2.66–2.81 microelectronvolts, and the later 2019 preprint reported an extended 2.81–3.31 microelectronvolt search using a Josephson parametric amplifier and alternative cavity configurations.

Scientific scope

ADMX searched microwave spectra for conversion of hypothetical Galactic axions and found no statistically significant axion signal. The 2018 report reached benchmark DFSZ sensitivity near 2.66–2.81 microelectronvolts, and the later 2019 preprint reported an extended 2.81–3.31 microelectronvolt search using a Josephson parametric amplifier and alternative cavity configurations. The exclusion limits assume specific local axion densities and velocity distributions, apply to the examined frequencies and quoted confidence level, and do not rule out all axion dark matter or establish a detection. The earlier result vetoes a radio-interference interval; the later report lists five mode-crossing gaps where no limit was set, despite filling three others with alternate rod configurations. Its apparent persistent candidate at 730.195 MHz was an intentionally blinded synthetic injection, not a discovery; two other persistent signals were attributed to radio interference after checks. The 2018 and 2019 reports have different author lists; the individual list shown for the later report is incomplete.
